Older yamaha are notorious for bad electrical connections so check them all, good part is they are easy fix.

Smoke caused by heat, so either you have a restriction to the current (bad connection there) or you have issue that is making it draw too much power (bad brushes, high compression engine making higher load, low voltage from weak battery). Low voltage will cause it to draw more current (amps) and amps cause heat. Normally the gen/starter is not loaded that much with a stock engine and everything in good working order, so normal cart even a little jump charger will spin it over, just as a reference.

My brushes came in today.

On the package label it states that the brushes are for G14/G16/G19/G22 golf cart however on the web description where I ordered from also stated G2/G9 so it all used the same starter throughout the years on different model golf carts and this brushes should work for my G2?

I think they are all the same, but don't hold me to that. The G14 pretty much has the same engine as a G9.

I ordered new brushes and put it in the starter. It was pretty easy to replace, just popped off 4 rubber covers and unscrewed the old ones then screw the new ones in.

Starter seem to be turning all the time now and hopefully that what fixes it.

Found the reason why I had this issue!

The battery keep draining to a point where it started doing this again so I suspect it had to be the voltage regulator.

I took out the voltmeter and it wasn't increasing volts when gas engine kick in so it points me to the regulator since I knew the starter/gen was producing power with those new brushes.

Almost was ready to order myself a new regulator until a friend of mine spotted one wire broken off the regulator. I grabbed a jumper wire then clipped it between broken wire and regulator - the volt reading shot up over 13 volts yay!!!!

Now need to fix that broken wire!
