Re: New belt problems....please help
Smallblock450sl. I greased the primary shaft and the bushing in the sheave. On the secondary I greased the bushings as well through the zerk fitting on the new sheave. I didn't just remove the nylon washer...I melted it with Mapp gas

Re: New belt problems....please help
Is it just me or does the primary clutch not look new. It also doesn't appear to be open all the way. Also by belt mark, it's not coming anywhere close to the outer diameter.

Re: New belt problems....please help
Neither the primary or secondary fixed sheaves are new. I only replaced the aluminum movable sheaves and the belt. Starting to wonder if the return springs are shot since the primary isn't opening all the way and secondary isn't closing all the way. They are 34 years old now so I'm thinking they may not be working how they should. Is this a common problem I don't know about and they just need to be replaced? Is there an easy way to test this theory out?

Thinking maybe something out of place not allowing drive clutch to open all the way?

Re: New belt problems....please help
I tried to pull the primary open more by hand yesterday but it didn't move out any further. Should there be a gap between the belt and sheaves and if so about how much? I may try a spacer of that thickness to see if it compresses the spring more and fixes the jumping while starting problem. Any thoughts?
