Default G16 smokes and is getting oil in airbox

It is smoking and has oil in airbox and valve cover has leaked a puddle onto plastic shroud next to plug. Good compression tested when cold and hot. 168.

It has a fresh oil change with 1qt oil used. So I know it's not over full

Smoking, oil in the air box, and an increased crankcase level due to gas in the oil, are indications of a bad needle/float valve in the bowl of the carb.

The valve cover gasket is probably brittle, and leaks.

No gas getting into the crankcase. Oil level hasn't changed

Had the exact same problem in my G16 when I bought it and Dave is spot on...float in the carb was sticking and my valves were way out of spec. If you go to adjust the valves, be sure to replace the gasket, and it's much better to get the cart hot and do the job with the .008 feeler than to do it cold. I just did the valves on a new EFI cart and after 8 hours, the intake valve was already too snug at temp, even though it still rad as spec at cold.

I looked on line for pictures of a g16 break down. I couldn't find what I wanted so I have to tell you about my oil issues. On a g2 there is an oil line that runs up the backside of the engine that sends oil to the valve cover valve pocket area of the engine. When I bought it there was oil all over in the engine fins and the valve cover. I found a crack in the feed line that pushed oil out. I put a clear piece of line on and could watch the pulses of oil being forced to the top end. Check for an oil leak there.
