Default Club Car rear axle clockwise or counterclockwise?

I bought a project 88 Club Car DS cart that came with an uninstalled clockwise f290d engine. How can i tell if rear end in the cart is clockwise or counterclockwise?

Thanks a bunch.

If the rear end is the original one from the 88, it would have the shift arm sticking vertically out the top of the unit. That would be a counter clockwise. If instead the shifter arm sticks horizontally out toward the rear it would be a clockwise unit.

96 an up was clockwise rotation, with OHV engine
92-96 was counterclockwise rotation, with the OHV engine
Pre 92 was counterclockwise rotation (same rear as 92-96), with the old flathead (side valve) engine.

Parts are not interchangeable between CCW and CW rears, they are altogether different.

ive run into the same problem,a counterclockwise engine with a 97 cc clockwise rear end.i read where you can still do it.but forward will be reverse and reverse will be forward, the forward speed is slower, because its actually reverse.

Yes that sounds right. I've heard of some guys mounting the motor with the drive clutch on the opposite side in relation to the driven clutch, and using a jack shaft setup across the back of the motor to convert the power to the rear axle in the proper direction, as an option.

Looks like rear end is original. Just going to sell the motor and do a clone swap. Thanks again for the help.
