G16A Starter Sticking
OK you guys helped before so here's my next issue, I installed a brand new Hitachi starter and OEM voltage regulator, (it wasn't charging battery and we toasted the starter these were seperate issues), I plan on rebuilding the old starter and keeping as back up. any way. runs and starts great but after a few starts and stops the starter wont spin, the solenoid clicks but no spin, if i depress the pedal and give the starter pulley a little help she kicks over no problem. Belt is adjusted, has about 3/8" of deflection when pushed on. I was thinking of pulling belt off and seeing if it works that way but when i rotate the belt off the pully she's now free? Any idea's Thanks in advance - Pete

Re: G16A Starter Sticking
Was it a new starter,or a reman? It could have a bad spot in the armature, that would explain why a little spin and it starts.Quick check, next time it doesnt start, mark the pulley, then recheck the next time it doesnt start.Same spot, bad armature.Or pull and have it tested.A intermittent solenoid can do similar things, but the fact that a spin gets it to go tells me the solenoid is ok.Hope this helps.

Yes new starter not reman. I'll try that with the pulley.

Re: G16A Starter Sticking
I was going to say it could be a brush in the starter or the armature, but you said it's a new unit. I have known new starters to have a brush not properly sitting and it causes a problem though. It might be worth checking it out if anything through the inspection rubber covers.
