Re: Losing spark
How are you checking for spark? Are you using a meter or are you just holding the plug to ground and watching for it?

Re: Losing spark
Unfortunately, I do not. With the Columbia's the ignition module serves as both the CDI and the igniter all in one. That's why they are so expensive.
If you google igniter test and such there are lot of troubleshooting tips posted on a bunch of different locations. I'd bet you can find a test somewhere if no one here knows anything specific. I am pretty sure these carts are set up pretty much the same at most motorcycles / quads of the period. My son has a Suzuki quad that has the same set up as my G1 (different components of course). |

Re: Losing spark
The Yamahas are a tci system, not a cdi. The coil is charged all the time and releases the spark when the connection is broken. Most coils are a cdi coil so they will not work on a Yamaha. Check out some pictures of a stock coil and compare it to yours.

Re: Losing spark
Wolverine I have been checking the spark with an old plug out of the motor and putting it close to head watching for spark. And I also have a spark plug tester from advance auto done it both ways same results

Re: Losing spark
If it were me, I would find a wiring diagram and put all the wiring back where it belongs the best that you can. I personally think you are fighting a wiring issue, especially since you bought the cart under repair. I would bet this is something that is stupid simple and it's hard for me to help you over the web. There are some good wiring diagrams online to look at. I would definitely concentrate on your ground wires.
