G9 won't do anything
Okay my BGW friends, my buddy at camp has a G9 that won't do anything. The battery is good because the rear lights are brite.. but when you step on the pedal nothing. I unhooked the starter and he is going to get it checked at the auto parts store.. Any clues on what to look at? Thanks

Re: G9 won't do anything
Well, can't test much without a starter generator installed. I'm not sure the people at the auto parts store are gonna know what to do to it.

Re: G9 won't do anything
I unhooked it so he could get it checked out if even possible. Last year towards the end of the year he was having to pump the gas pedal to get it to go. He said it would just take off all of a sudden after pumping the pedal. I didn't know what to do so I took the starter out for him to get tested..

Re: G9 won't do anything
First you have to check and see if the starter is turning and the belt is loose, but usually you can hear it. Then check the battery post connections they can do that. Then check to see if the start solenoid is going bad or the pedal switch, however it is common for the small wires on the start solenoid to have connection problems, the connectors go bad. Sometimes you can stomp on the floor in front of the solenoid (passenger side) and it takes off that tells you wires or solenoid is bad. You can test for power on the white/red wire on the solenoid from the pedal, if no its the pedal switch, if yes the pedal is working it sends power when pressed. Always check all wires and connections before you buy a part. Typically the gen has few problems but brushes do go bad in them sometimes and bearings also, but much more rare than other issues.

Re: G9 won't do anything
the starter belt was on the loose side so I tightened it up before we ever tried anything. the starter isn't making any noise at all. the battery post connections were also loose so we tightened them up as well. The solenoid and starter areas look like crap, not much done in the way of maintenance on this cart. I will do some checks for power when I go back out to camp today, if mother nature cooperates. Thanks

Re: G9 won't do anything
Went back to campgrounds today and was checking the battery with my meter, than was checking out the battery cables going over to the starter and meter read a -12.75
Started looking at things and noticed he had the battery hooked up backwards. I didn't have time to put the starter back in to try it.. hopefully it didn't hurt the starter or solenoid hooked up backwards. Going back out on Friday or Saturday to put our little it back together.. |

Re: G9 won't do anything
Oops, I would guess the solenoid would not work that way. Have no idea if it would have damaged anything. They do have fuses either in rubber connectors in the small wires or in a block on the rear fender driver side next to the voltage regulator. Usually 10A fuses. If no go then look at those.
