Brake Replacement
A 1988 Club Car DS was brought to me to replace brakes. Cart had very little brakes. Pedal doesn't have much travel. The shoes were not really worn that much but, I already had new shoes. I installed the new shoes and adjusted to where the drums were barely dragging. I put the wheels back on and noticed that the wheels had pretty much locked up and would not turn. It seems the drums do not slide all the way in until tightening the lug nuts. When I do this it binds up. I can back off the adjuster so the wheel is free after I put on the lug nuts but, then there are no brakes. I am racking my brain but cannot make any progress. Its either one or the other. No brakes or brakes are binding.

Re: Brake Replacement
The ridge on the open side of the drum needs to be ground off so that the drums can go on and off properly.
That will also help with getting the adjustment satisfactory. A die grinder with a carbide burr is how I got mine in shape. It might amaze you of the difference it will make ! |

Re: Brake Replacement
The new brake shoes were the culprit. I put the old ones back on and all is fine. They were supposed to be for this cart but, not so.
