Sounds like the coil is done.
The igniter is internal in the coil after ‘96 or 97.
Unfortunately, that means the engine has to come out to get the side cover off to change the coil. It’s not a job you’ll want to do twice.
Check with David at Revolution for a new OEM coil.

Was using ad blocker browser and had no idea. No wonder I've been having so much hell looking up parts and whatnot from sponsors.

Now here's my redneck question of the day after 7 hours of chasing down wires in a 90 degree building here in Arkansas and after just taking an Ambien so while it makes sense now, it probably won't tomorrow but here goes..

Can you use a Dremel tool to cut into the shroud to make getting the the ignition coil easier and perhaps use something like this painted black to mount the cut shroud to keep the the ghetto job to a minimum?

I wouldn't do that. I would just buy an OEM coil, pull the engine, replace the coil with a new OEM coil, bolt the engine back in, and forget about it for another 20 years.

OEM coil
OEM coil
OEM coil.

I don't think i said OEM coil enough times so one more for good measure, OEM coil

but really, it's not THAT difficult to pull the motor, and you don't have to completely remove the engine. Just remove the 4 bolts in the bottom of the motor, the 4 nuts that bolt it to the trans/rear end in the back, and tilt it sideways enough to pull the cover off. Swap the coil, bolt it back in. Still not a fun job, but as long as you use an OEM coil (I guess one more lol) you shouldn't have to worry about it again for the life of the cart.

IF you save the $20 and buy an aftermarket coil, you can count on doing the job again in a few months, or less.
