Default setting valves on 295cc

i adjusted the valves on my cart yesterday (first time trying this) and the engine runs about the same, but "clicking" noises are louder... it's a new engine... i followed the directions on the tech tread, & used a .004 feeler guage - engine was cold when adjusted. how much drag should i feel when sliding the feeler guage between the cam & lifter? it's kind of hard to tell with the guage bending so much...

The gage is supposed to barely drag when you insert it. Some people will screw in the adjuster till it makes contact with the top of the valve and then turn it out 1/4 turn and lock it in place. That way is amazingly close, but not mentioned in the adjustment thread. oops it is in the thread...

The feeler gauge should drag but, not chatter or stick when pulled thru. THere is room for error so if you are hearing excessive clatter you are way off. Try again.

funny......I kept using the feeler guage and never got it right. As soon as I used ruredys method, it worked like a charm.

I actually cut my .004 in half longways and bent a 45 on the end of it.
I'll have to try your method TT. Sounds like a winner!
