Default how tight...

How tight should the drive belt on a golf cart be? My cart would putt putt but not go any where. I lifted the seat and could see the drive belt spinning around. eventually it grabbed and off I went. After about 4 holes it seemed okay. I could move the belt by hand. Is it possibly something in the primary drive? Like I said after the first initial problem it seemed alright. My cart is a 1980 ez go gas.

here is a pic of an ezgo with a new belt.... fit is measured by deflection at a total stop.... this looks like 3/4 inch but I don't know off hand what the manual calls for?
