Re: 96 fe290 club car die's out and back fires
For safety reasons I would leave it as a pedal start/stop cart.
Get the starting/running issue worked out and you will like that feature. So you have the ground wire from the limiter unplugged from the motor and it's running better. Try it with the limiter completely removed, You may have found your problem. The spit/sputter at restart might be another issue like carb adjustment or cleaning. |

Re: 96 fe290 club car die's out and back fires
i have a 98ds with a fe-290 and its doing the same thing. the coil went out. i took it to the shop and they put another on it. (for a hefty price i may add.) they also told me that there was a loose wire they fixed that caused the coil to go bad. it'll run ok one minute, and spit sputter and backfire the next. carb is clean, fuel pump was replaced, fuel lines and filter are good, and gas tank drained and cleaned out of debris. still does the same thing. if the rev limiter wire was off and they put it back on and it was bad wouldnt it screw up the running? also another thought i had is that on the coil there isnt a end that connects to the spark plug. it is added to the coil wire. does this connect under the shroud? or is it something i can get to without removing it? any help would be gr8ly appreciated.

Re: 96 fe290 club car die's out and back fires
Bump. I'm having similar issues. 97 carryall fe290. It has low power and skips/sputters its way up to speed. I replaced carb, fuel pump, fuel lines/filters, new gas, new spark plug, new air filter, disconnected rev limiter and it still runs crappy. Compression is good. Only thing I can think of is a bad coil or igniter any body have another suggestion?
