Default comet ind. duster clutch fix/rebuild

Please help. I think I have this thing narrowed down to a clutch problem. I have a new belt, the rear clutch appears to be working properly, but the front clutch I'm not sure about. It doesn't want to pinch the belt enough to make the cart go. Can anyone tell me how to take this thing apart and possibly rebuild it? I took the center bolt out and am pretty much stuck there.

the outer dust cover is pressed on sorta. you really need to remove the clutch to make it easier to work on .Here are the steps that i use.

let me know if you need help, or these guys on here are great and they will be along soon to add what i missed.
if you need an egagement spring and pucks sizes i have a chart i can post it also.
By the way some comet parts are getting very hard to find [not to scare you]

1.after on the bench, find a bolt screw it in let 1/4 stick up [not tight]
this is to protect you and keep in all the parts.

2.gently tap /pry up on the dust cover it will come up . you will know then it releases [that is what the bolt is for].

3. remove the bolt and dust cover remove the spring [check it for damage]
mark the pucks and note the location of them and how they go .
[color and weight,location]

4. if the pucks are melted or wore excessive, or the spring is broke.
you found your damage.

5. if every thing looks ok, then check the bushing in the end of the clutch sheeve [the one that slides], make sure it is not wore excessively.

6. check the sliding sheeve for belt wear on the machine surface [belt groove]

7. if you still havent found your problem with all that." you got problems"...........[ there are/is not too many things that can go wrong with the 94-c clutch]

8. time for reassb. [no lube is need or required ]
clean all belt dust from the movable sheeve.

9.install the movable sheeve onto the fixed sheeve shaft

10.install pucks into the locations you marked [ the pucks serve as a balancing and engagement function]

11. install spring [ note the color is part of the engagement rpm also]

12. install the dust cover [check that there are no sharp gouges where the pucks ride]

13 the bolt that you used to hold the cover when taking off is the SAME bolt that you will use along witha washer to PRESS the cover back on, making sure that the is seated *** YOU WILL NEED TO LINE UP THE FLATS BEFOR PRESSING IT ON****

14. check the crank shaft end and wipe clean , also wipe clean the inside of the clutch

15. put the clutch back on the machine

16. remove the cover holding press bolt.

17. install the factory bolt tighting it down.

18.install belt

good luck.

i'm in the same dilemma also. My comet clutch exploded losing a couple of the pucks at the same time. How would I know what size pucks to use/ie put back in? Its the 94 c with the 30mm bore. I did a bunch of reading and saw many different examples of what people were doing but dont really have a clue what to do here. I have the pink spring in the clutch and my cart is used primarily around my mountain property that is pretty steep. It has 20" tires on it right now and I usually have a couple of kids hanging off it and haul lawn stuff/ie mulch, sticks, dirt and when I go to the race track, spare tires, tool boxes, gas jugs. I read that putting more weight in the pucks will allow them to pick up on the RPM's faster but does that mean I should put all 59 gram pucks back in?

Also since the comet clutch is getting harder and harder to find parts for is there another similar replacement clutch of equal performance?

Thanks rusty, pop a top. I will attempt to get the clutch off the cart. I'm not clear on how to do this though. The bolt at the rear center I leave on?
Also I did pull a rokie move and not search the site befor asking a question.

rusty did a great job, but i believe it was for the driven clutch. for the drive clutch (the one on the engine) if you have enough room you can pull the cover off in the cart. just one large bolt and 6 small bolts under very little pressure. then you can inspect it and see if anything is broken or frozen.
if this doesn,t work you will need a puller to take off the clutch. what year is your cart? i can explain how to remove a 2cycle one but not sure on the 4 cycle.
sorry for the bad pic, but does your clutch look like this?
