Default Engine rebuild 85 gi help!

I just picked up a 85 gi W/j 31 engine. It has no compression. Found a rebuild kit 4 190.00 shipped. I haven't rebuild an engine 4 years so I'm hoping to get help here. Should I wait 4 the parts to tear it down do I need any special tools ? is there a site to help with the rebuild:help

This is the perfect place for help. if your only doing the top end, you should'nt need any special tools, but if you have no compression you may have bad crank seals also. I pulled my J31 motor today and found my crankshaft bearings bad, that took out my seals, and started chewing up my pulsar coil so i'm doing a complete rebuild. I had a flywheel puller, but i'll make a clutch puller those 2 should be the only special tools if you decide to go further. good luck. like you i've never rode my cart but i'm havin fun spendin money on beer and parts.

My advice would be to order a service manual. I started my rebuild without one and hit a wall. The manual will be super helpful if you aren't familiar with this engine. You'll need a clutch removal/installer tool and a gear puller with some metric bolts if you are doing the crank bearings. It's definately tricky when splitting the cases and removing an reinstalling the bearings.
