I learned valve adjustment 101 on all the VWs we used to run, on and off road out here in the desert sand. Valve adjustments was like Church on Sunday = mandatory and proper.

Thanks for all the replies to this thread, just had a lot of trouble with the picture in the manual as I had just reground new inlet valves and left the engine in the cart. The valves were inside the bore of the valve seats,can't imagine what that was caused by, any ideas anyone? that was the reason I had trouble re-fitting the belt and getting the right valve timing. Cart up and running, but have not run it outside as we have a lot of snow at the minute.
