Backfiring
1992 EzGo Marathon...drifted down a hill with the brake compressed...when hit the gas again, BAM, backfiring. This has happened twice now. Checked the spring...it's there. Could this be due to the muffler being clogged? It smells like it may be getting a bit hot as well...

Re: Backfiring
Can someone tell me how to "BBQ" a muffler? I'm pretty sure we need to do this...the cart is old and I'm willing to bet it's never been cleaned, on top of it sitting for over a year before we got a hold of it. Is it as simple as "remove muffler, place in fire, cool, knock chunks out?" I've read in another forum that my issues with always needing the choke could be due to this as well.

Re: Backfiring
Yes to BBQ the muffler is just like you said. Take it off and put in the fire let cool and get and ash out.
With having to use the choke your carb might need a good cleaning. As for the backfiring your cable to the gas pedal might need to be adjusted so the butterfly in the carb closes all the way. on the cable their should be a little spring that get compress just a little when the gas pedal is not getting pressed down. |

Re: Backfiring
Are we talking about a two or four stroke?

Re: Backfiring
OK this is confusing 1992 is the generally accepted date that the twin-cylider 4-cycle engine became the standard power plant but in fact the 3pg engine can be found in golf carts as late as 1994. Angelene, tell us what you got honey.

Re: Backfiring
Pretty sure it's a 4 cycle. We are having all sorts of problems now...cleaned the carb and now the thing won't start at all. What a headache!
