The group number just means the physical size of battery you need. My 79 has a group 24 and its physically the biggest one I could get. Every battery has a group number. That's how you know what vehicle or cart it will fit. Even rebuilts have a number. I would put a new one in a drive the hell out of it. Your cart should have the same size battery.

I have a group 65 Battery. its a month old. 1080 cranking amps. I've always used this size battery for the capacity and cold start power being I plow with it and have it set up as a wrecker.

I've recently obtained a problem where it charges at 17 volts. Shut the cart off and the battery will hold 12.4 all day. Hit the gas pedal it jumps up to 14.8, rev it up past 2,000 rpm and it's right back up to 17 volts.

been changing parts and nothing seems to effect it. even ran a new green wire.

Yea, that seems pretty high.I think mine will get to 17 if I'm revving pretty hard though and so far I haven't had any trouble. If this were mine, if it's holding voltage, the battery isn't swelling or getting hot to the touch, you're not boiling any fluids out and you don't notice the sulfur/fart smell, I think I'd run it.Just keep a **** good eye on that sucker and have a fire extinguisher on board. But still, that's just me.If anything bugs you, it won't hurt to leave it be until you can get better informed. You're pretty much running 17 volts anytime you're moving which doesn't seem right at all.I wonder if there is an air gap adjustment on your voltage regulator like there is on old cars. You might research it.
