racin161 yep not to far. small world. Got the cart running and almost sanded down to bare metal. only the second metal cart I have done. The only issue is it seems to load up and backfire when you let off the gas? What do you think, starving for fuel, valve adjustment? Everything else looks good. Thinking about going with a bed liner paint job. If its down to bare metal do you think it needs primed? Thanks for all the info.

Its your throttle cable adjustment making it backfire. There should be a spring on the throttle cable on the bar where all the cables run through. It's either missing, broken, or isn't tight enough. When you're letting off the throttle your fuel isn't completely shutting off because of this. Then when you hit the gas, the ignition fires back up and lights off the fuel that's been building up. Just like taking a carberated auto down a hill, shutting off the key, keeping a foot on the gas while you do so, then turning the key back on then KABLAAM! The spring ensures that the throttle closes all the way when you let off the gas.

There's plenty of info already posted about how to set it up on BGW. It's a pretty common occurrence.

Anyhow, down to bare metal I'd prime it. Can't hurt right?
