Default Yamaha g2 crank but no start when Wet

Yamaha g2 crank but no start when Wet

I have a yamaha g2 I washed it up and the engine got wet and went to start it up and it would crank but not start, it was backfiring threw the carb, pulled thd plug and it was wet with gas and cleaned it up still nothing, I sprayed with starting fluid and no start just crank, pulled plug tried new one, then let it sit, after 2 hours went out and it started right up any ideas? and if you have an idea how to prevent this from happening again, I don't want this yo happen on the trail.

Not really sure how wet you got the engine, but what probably happened is that you got the ignition coil wet which would allow the high voltage being generated in the coil to "leak" to ground before it could be applied to the spark plug. It doesn't take much moisture on the surface of the coil for this to happen. If you are ever in this situation again, something to try would be to spray the coil with WD-40, then blow the excess WD-40 off with compressed air. Best if you don't let it happen at all by protecting the coil from getting wet. Hope this helps - RAY

Yep, thats what all the G2-G9s do, just today i was smashing some big mud puddles, soaked the ign system, Kaput. Stuck at the gas station, decided to get some "frosty beverages" while i waited for it to dry.
