Default new G1 w/ questions

Im a newbie to gas golf carts and just picked up this g1 and it has some issues I need some help with. The cart has a lift kit which may be homemade and the front is pretty loose. The steering wheel has to be turned half way to turn the wheels, moves back and forth a lot. I will try and load some pics of the underside and hopefully you can help with that. Maybe tie rods? Bushings?

Hard to tell from pics but the column comes down to a piece that is welded, you have to turn the wheel a half the. To get the wheels to move at all.

When in reverse you have to floor it for it to move any, then it flys backwards, Sometimes in forward it takes a while to get moving. Also the choke is under the seat and the cable doesn't seem to move freely when you pull it, could this cause the jerky reaction?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. The lift is homemade. It sounds like you have a lot of play in your steering box. (common problem) There is an adjustment screw on it. Packing it with grease will help the problem.

I'd make sure the bolts holding the steering box were tight, then find the nut on it with the adjuster in the center. You loosen the lock nut and turn it in, but make sure it turns freely all the way lock to lock, they tend to get tight near lock and still loose in the center as the center wears the most. The lube leaks out, good idea to fill with wheel bearing grease.

Remember the starter turns it over no matter, so when you reverse is the engine not starting then starts and takes off....or it is running but bogging out? Could be simple as a tune up, but crank seals go bad and top end wears out eventually.
