That's what I'm doing. The piston does not make any noise, i can only feel it moving. I managed to get the head off before it got dark on me. I found a good chunk of the head gasket missing, it was on the side with the broken bolt. I couldn't find the missing piece anywhere. Hopefully I will have time after work tomorrow to pull the jug.

Got the secondary off today and it looks like there is a piece of rubber or something that is holding it open, i can open it by hand and it stops when it hits the rubber. Any idea what it is?

No idea. That's different than mine. Even my buttons are different. You will have to take her apart. I'm sure that shouldn't be there.

Replaced the head gasket and head bolt today and got it running. I ran it around for about 15 minutes and it ran great, I came back home and stopped for about 2 minutes and tired to start it back but it would not start back. I was able to get it to start for a few seconds by holding the throttle wide open but it died after a few seconds. I got frustrated with it and quit messing with it. Any ideas what would cause it to not start back after getting hot?

Did u only replace the head gasket? what abut the jug? Did u torque the head bolts to spec? Crank seals? Try another compression check.

I only replaced the head gasket because funds are tight right now, but the piston and cylinder seemed fine. I can tell the compression is a lot better by turning it over by hand but i do plan to do another check. I'm wondering if my carb is flooding out when i stop. If it starts easily in the morning then I'm going to lean towards the carb flooding.

Did you replace the base gasket? Sounds to me like that could be bad with head coming loose. It doesn't take much to disturb them.

I think you're right. I checked the jug bolts and found two of them on the bottom were loose, i probably got a full turn out of each of them. I also noticed i had gas leaking around the jug so the gasket is probably shot as well. That is what i get for being cheap, i should have just rebuilt the top end.
