Yamaha Drive tire and wheel combinations for rocky trails, no lift
I have a 2008 Drive that is not lifted. I need to put on more aggressive tires than the stock turf units now on it. I am in the Texas hill country and running both pavement and rocky trails. These are occasionally steep and composed of loose rock and caliche. I'd prefer to keep the same or near same wheel size to maintain my torque but need a more aggressive tread with higher rated tires than current. I'd prefer to only replace the rear tires.
I am also considering bash plates for the transaxle and and underfloor foot controls. Anybody have any experience with them? Haven't really looked for aftermarket plates so don't know if they exist. I know that many go to lift kits and larger wheel diameters to increase clearances but these then lead to reduced torque, gear change outs, etc. to compensate. Any comments pro, con and otherwise are appreciated. Thanks. |

A 3" lift and 20" tires would be alot better for traction and ground-clearance.The differentials hang down, and you can get hung up fairly easily.I would consider a turf-tire or a knobby tread for all around use.Hey both have good traction, wear is good, and they are decent on pavement too.Hope this helps.

Will that buggy take 20" tires without the lift? Thanks for the reply.

They will likely rub, especially if you are going to hit bumps,On-Road they may work, but Off-Road,you need a little room for suspension-travel.

I put 20/10/10 knobby tires on contractor's carts and work carts all the time. Just get a plain steel wheel with a little less offset and I think you will be fine. I really like that set up
