just break down and buy it !
I spent way to much time trying to make a sheave puller tool for my g1. I finally broke down and ordered one off ebay before I tore anything up ( 26 bucks). Will aftermarket crankshaft bearings and seals be ok for a 28 year old beater cart or should I spend the extra for o.e ?

Re: just break down and buy it !
Aftermarket bearings are fine. They won't last as long as the Yamaha stuff, but they work well.
Sometimes it pays to have the right tools! |

Re: just break down and buy it !
ok, I got the puller bolt to remove the pulley. used an impact ,as directed ,ended up bending the bolt and still did not break the pulley loose. I almost didn't get it back out. what am I missing , do I need heat, wd40 , better quality puller (ebay cheapee ) please advise.

Re: just break down and buy it !
It must really be rusted on there. Yes a good penetrating oil and wait a few days, spraying it daily. It'll come loose. Don't over do it, something always gives and you don't want to break the clutch. Normally it pops right off.

Re: just break down and buy it !
After treating with penetrating oil, NOT WD40, tighten the puller in
stages and tap the end with a hammer, walk away and come back later and tighten again. Sooner or later it will pop off. Be sure and grease the threads of the puller. |

Re: just break down and buy it !
I bent my first puller & the bolt I then tried to heat with torches no luck. then got a automotive puller & used it had a lot of tq on it with the impact gun then it let loose sounded like a 22 going off the funny thing was the shaft had greese all over it no rust. someone must have over tightened it before.

I normally run the puller up tight, and whack the end of it with a decent size hammer, usually 1 or 2 hits and they pop.
