ALL the G16 (1996) and newer motors had the spacer that slides over the studs, in fact the airbox would not even line up with the starter generator bracket (airbox rear mounting location) without the spacer. Spacer is still there on the FI drives, but it has a little different shape to not restrict the spary pattern of the injector.

You are talking about the part that bolts to the carb with 2 holes in it and turns up and goes to the air box. Not just a little 1/4 spacer or so.

No, roughly 1/2 inch thick. Goes between the carb and the cyl. head.

The spacer may be hard to actually identify. It may be tucked under the shroud a little, making it look like part of the engine. If your air breather box is attached to the carburetor, and You have just a little bit of stud (1/4" +) left after You attach the breather box, and secure with nut - Your good.
