How does battery charge on gas G-9

I charged my battery on my 1992 gas G-9 today and when I got home from work it runs great. I am guessing for some reason my battery isn't charging it self. So my question is how does the battery charge on gas golf carts.. Maybe I have a wire broke or something. I just need to know where to look.

The starter/generator and voltage regulator do it. Once you push on the go pedal and the engine turns over and fires up on the ignition circuit, the starter turns into a generator. If you put a volt meter on the battery and start the car and rev it up, it should read (just like a car) 14.5 to 15.5 volts an is charging the battery as you run the car. The red and green wires coming out of the starter/generator is the start to the charging system. Check those things out first.
