Re: 87 marathon being resurrected
I put 4" total lift and 2" wheel spacers on every wheel so it's 4" wider overall only problem now is I can definitely tell I have a bent rim on the left rear so one more thing to buy. I'm getting it ready for a OD green paint job with black trim and rims

Re: 87 marathon being resurrected
Looks good!
How fast can you go? With those taller tires if you unhooked the governor I'd guesstimate around 20-22 MPH. |

Re: 87 marathon being resurrected
I believe according to phone gps that it does 16-17mph that's with the governor intact. I was worried about blowing it up if I take it off . I'd like to get rid of it but would have to confirm it won't implode first. I'd be happy to take any advice if you guys have any especially clutch help.

Re: 87 marathon being resurrected
I'd remove the governor, just watch the downhill runs, etc.. With those taller tires, I really don't think you can over-rev it unless your throttling it hard downhill. As for clutches, the advice I was given is in the 3 wheel build thread in my signature - Morgan44 has a smoking hot 2pg setup, so I trust his advice on clutching.
One other item - are you using the factory oil injection system? If so you need to remove it and cap off the injection port at the intake and premix at 128:1 or 100:1, the latter if you plan on hard running and lots of offroading. |

Re: 87 marathon being resurrected
Thank you I've been having a hell of a time with clutching suggestions and the factory clutch just isn't cutting it

Re: 87 marathon being resurrected
So quick update I removed the oil resevoir bottle and line, plugged the injector with a m6-12mm fine thread bolt now I'm running 93 octane with motul oil @100:1 so 6.25oz/5gal.
I put a new plug in it and a pod filter on the intake. I was running it today on a flat trail @22 mph according to phone gps that's with the governor intact. Any idea if it would be bad to remove the governor ? I don't want to blow it up just yet. Yellowclubcar said earlier in this thread he thought it would be okay as long as I stayed off the throttle down hill. I happen to agree with that after a lot of thought but just thought I'd ask for a couple more opinions just to be sure. |

Re: 87 marathon being resurrected
You can remove it without problems. If your getting 22 mph on a flat run, I don't think it's working correctly anyway. Over revving will be tough with a somewhat stock set up. A super long down hill run would be the only time it would even cross my mind.
