i have a 1984 ezgo that I believe has lost compression. how hard is it to put a new top end in and new jug??? After coming home from about a 20 mile trip it wont start and sounds like its free spinning.

Wow that's a long trip! If you drove 20 miles at max rpm, that's pretty taxing on a golf cart engine. This is a 2 stroke?

The answer depends on your skill and experience level. For someone who has built several engines and has the tools and knowledge and manuals....probably pretty easy, that engine is very simple. For someone who has never rebuilt and engine.....probably not that easy and expect delays and mistakes. Engine building is not as easy as "assembling parts" or "installing pistons", there's so much more involved.

If you've never done it, I don't recommend doing it without someone with experience to help you. You'll need specialized tools, manuals, good quality parts, and time. It can be done, you just need to learn how if you've never done it.

Would a Predator swap be easier? There are a few Utube vids showing how it's done.

What so odd about a 20 mile trip ? I do that several times a week. Others here do more

And IF the bottom end is OK putting a top end set on is pretty simple. Not much to lose by tearing it down and taking a look. BUT a good first thing to do would be a compression test. If you don't own a gauge many auto parts stores will loan you one.

I say no, especially if it's just a top end. Not worth losing reverse
