Upgrading for Speed

I have heard nothing but good info from emp's motors. That said I raised my cart from 36 to 48 v and there was a large, big, increase in performance. Cheap to do (batteries, wiring, eventually new solenoid). I am thinking of getting my motor rebuilt at emp when I get my 72v running right.

jtbird, I just noticed you have controller cart(I'm trying to get out of my prehistoric days) so the 2 speed motor could suit your needs. Later if you want more power, motor should handle it. Make sure you don't raise the voltage on your controller cart unless you upgrade the controller.

Got a quote from emp. Lowest price I found. What if I did that upgrade, could I go to 48v when it comes time to get new batteries? Or do I have to order a 48v motor? Sorry, Im new to all this.

Ronman, 1/2 the fun is in the learning!
You don,t need a 48v motor to run 48 volts. All of the 36v motors will run like molested apes on 48 volts. All you need is a 48v solenoid and "48 volts". Upgrading the battery cables helps get the juice to motor...

You will also need 48v controller if you raise voltage. Motors are so voltage sensitive. A 36v controller will burn out at 48v.

Yes. If it is a controller cart? I think I was under the impression it was a resistor coil cart.....in which case...'what I said!'

Yeah, "most bang for buck" would definetly be a jump from 36 to 48... the solenoid, batteries and 2/4ga wire would be way cheaper than some 2-speed kit... This person just wants more torque for hillclimbing, 48v should do just that, if I have learned anything from my digital electronics classes and this forum...

Oh, and non-DCS means resistor... so he wouldn't need anything but the three things I mentioned above... If you research in these forums, this guy had a way to stack a 36V charger with a cheap 12V car charger!!!
