1988 club car 36v to 48v conversion
I have a 1988 club car and it runs slow and loses a charge too quickly. The speed is approx 13mph on a level road.
I want to convert the cart to 48v. What are all the pieces that I have to change out other than the batteries? Solenoids? Switches? Electric Motor? Also, where can I get the best price on a good 48v charger? Thanks, Ty. |

13 MPH is very good for that old style cart if no conversions have been done so dont knock it? Stick with your 36 volt motor as it handles the additional voltage with no problems and will give you more power and speed than a stock 48 volt motor.

I'm guessing its a controller cart. It has multiple black coils attached to the back of the battery compartment. Does that mean it's a controller cart?? If so, do I have to replace all of those or what?? Ty. |

You describe a resistor coil cart. Solid state speed Controller is what you want to convert to. But that is not going to get you any top speed. Both systems give the motor full access to the pack at wide open throttle. The 48v conversion will get your motor turning about 25-30% faster.
You will replace the V-glide with a potentiometer. Replace the resistor coils with a speed controller Replace the solenoid with one compatible with the controller you choose and replace all the battery cables throughout the cart with a gauge that is capable of delivering the amperage your system will be running. Hope this helps. |

you have a resistor cart, those 5 round black things are your soleniods the main and speeds, you can convert its just a bit more costly but you,ll need the things scotty mentioned and a few other things..................

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I have pretty much the same cart and was interested in doing the same thing. Could someone put together a list of items and examples of what I would need. I see potentiometer, controller, and solenoid, but does it matter which one. What do I look for in each of these and does it matter what year I purchase a potentiometer for, are some better than others or easier to adapt to my cart. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have been using a modified Curtis 16 potentiometer in my conversion kits.
