Bandit motor - burning smell

Here's something to think about. I think probably everybody has heard stories about getting a diesel electric train moving. I've heard that to get it started it takes like 50,000 amps but once its rolling at cruising speed it is just a tiny fraction of that amount to keep it moving. Well the same with an electric car. It takes a lot to get it started rolling probably up to the limit of your controller. Once it is rolling up to speed it will drop down to a small percentage of that 500amps. Actually for a 3.3 HP motor the current would be 50amps at cruising speed. Needless to say all that extra current produces a lot of heat. PS I may be wrong on that 50,000 amps, but it's a lot.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it also true that sepex cars run hotter at lower speeds? I'm pretty sure series systems are better for slow cruising.

klanel, do you have a sepex or series cart?

Keep in mind that HP ratings on a DC motor are what it's rated to run at not what it produces. It may produce way more briefly under heavy acceleration - and way less at cruise.

Spoke with Rick at plumquick and he said max recommend tire size for bandit is 22" and suggested trying a lower max amp setting to see if that would help. Other than that either smaller tire size or torque motor.

Did you tell Rick at plumquick you are running a 36 volt resistor cart on 48 volts with a v glide
