Upgrade ideas?

I've sent a note out to scottyb but thought to also open up the discussion to you guys for advise about how to proceed....

So I've got an I have is an 01 ezgo series cart...see profile picture. 36v . The batteries 2011's T105's (fully charged post 12hrs showing 6.4 & 6.5v) so I'm not interesting in going to 48v until I need new batteries, however would like a plan on getting the cart upgraded with that goal in mind. The wires are all 2ga. Motor is original. I usually have 400lbs of people cruising around daily and closer to 600lbs when off-roading. We have varying topography (Texas hill country) and go off-roading while loaded down often...especially during hunting season. I burn through the battery power quickly when cruising around. I overheated my motor or something while off-roading last year and the cart just stopped working for 5 minutes.

I think the pkg below will help along with and hd cam switch. Somewhere down the road I'm sure I'll need a motor too....but just trying to take a step at a time.

SPM-48500 Hunting Buggie
575 peak amp output, 36 or 48 volt operation, with a 400 amp 36-48v Super duty solenoid,
Resistor and Diode, and safety Main Fuse included

This combination is great for modified golf carts with big tires and rear seats.
Suitable for off road hunting buggies and aftermarket motors.
Use were torque demands are greater than campground use.
More peak amperage than the AXE500. More amperage = more torque.

Doug, I HIGHLY recommend that very package, as its the one I am running. and I love it. although I don't use my cart in the same way you do, it WILL do the job. There is another piece you should consider upgrading as well and that would be the HD F&R switch, but you did mention that and I recommend you get one, if you don't, it will be the weak link. AND considering how you do use your cart, and the load placed on it on a regular basis, I would also highly recommend upgrading the motor to a higher torque motor.

My honest opinion is this, the carts not going to reliably do the job you describe until you replace the stock controller, solenoid, cables, F&R, motor, and batteries.

Consider your cart weighs close to 900-1000 pounds and you are putting 5-600 pounds in it and going uphills. There is no part of the stock drive system that was engineered or manufactured for the loads this will demand.

Doing a half way upgrade will get you half way home.

So consider a high torque motor part of the package. And 48v will make everything run more efficiently (longer) and cooler (less amp draw). I hope this helps

Gasser? I loved my WorkHorse, and often wish I hadn't sold it.

Most passengers didn't mind sitting (hanging on for dear life) in the dump bed.

decided to sell off this cart. After putting a pencil to the project, I decided that It's more financially feasible to sell the cart and buy a newer 48v cart . Listed on craigslist!

You'll be back in the same place with a newer stock cart except some of you upgrade money will be gone.

True true. Generally speaking, 48v carts were designed to run more efficiently not to produce more torque and speed. All golf carts run about the same 12-14 mph (as courses request for safety)

However - when you take a 36v cart and put 48v to it the motor produces 33% more torque and speed.

I was so disappointed than when I bought my first 48v series CC.
