Difference between Curtis and alltrax controllers??
I have an ezgo that has alltrax controllers. I have another cart that is 4x4 that uses dual Curtis controllers. What is the difference between the two? Which is better for higher torque hunting setups? I can program my alltrax using laptop but I don't think I can on the Curtis. Do you have to have a Curtis programmer or is there a way to do on computer?

There is a way with a laptop, you dont want to do it (are you a programmer?). Plus its all Very proprietary= $$$$$. Nothing is as easy and cheap as programming with a Alltrax. You could also get a handheld programmer, it works only on Curtis stuff (but not all curtis stuff can be programmed), plan on spending ~$500 for it (you can rent them too).

Re: Difference between Curtis and alltrax controllers??
Curtis controllers are rebuild-able if they quit. Alltrax are not with the exception of SPM series I believe. As mentioned, among the two Alltrax is the easiest to program by far due to the special software and hardware required by Curtis.
Want the easiest controller ever to program? Look into FSIP controls by GE. Those controllers are just as reliable as Alltrax, some say they are even more reliable due to simplicity. To "program" the FSIP's all you need is a small screwdriver! There are 3 adjustable pots on the side. That's it! So easy a caveman can do it. |

Sc, not 100% but I think the SPM controllers are encased in epoxy also so no rebuilding there. Did not know about FSIP being that simple.. I learned something today
So it sounds like level of difficulty is FSIP, Alltrax then Curtis. |

SPM controllers are vented and have a cooling fan. I don't know for sure but the fan would be useless if the components were encased in epoxy like the other Alltrax models.

What about durability between alltrax and Curtis? Also which is better for low torque, high speed, towing etc? Or do they both have the same abilities when it comes to power?

Re: Difference between Curtis and alltrax controllers??
From observation, Curtis controls are OEM choice. The programming when available requires expensive (dealership) tools. These controls are mostly geared towards stock cart operation with some upgrades available.
Alltrax. Maybe 15-20 years of aftermarket cart application, programs with the common home computer or laptop. The SPM controls are a total makeover of the original series with many new features. Companies like alltrax and fsip have been catering to the off road enthusiasts for some time. Alltrax is the most trusted name in aftermarket golf cart controllers. |

Is there much value to them? Wouldn't mind selling both Curtis controllers and buying me another 500 alltrax.
