The solenoid on my cart don't have a diode on it. Should it have one on it? Was looking to buy a heavy duty solenoid and seen some of them with a diode! Thanks

Some systems specify yes, some dont, but in any case it would be safer to have one. When the solenoid turns off, the magnetic field that closes the contacts collapses, causing a voltage spike that can exceed 1000 volts (works on the same principle that fires the spark plugs on your car). Sensitive electronics dont like this level of voltage, so if internal protection is not provided, a diode on the solenoid is required. For less than $5 for a diode, i feel the protection is worth it.

Our Solenoids come with the resistor (provides a precharge for controller) and the diode for the reasons gctech mentioned.
