Default traction in snow? ideas?

I got into golf carts mostly because I need something to get around here at home since I cant walk alot and very well.
This storm has my 3 wheel Ez-go at the bottom of the hill not able to move.I was getting around fine till it froze over last night in the snow with the regular tires. But not now.
Will tire chains help if I make up a set from old car tire chains?
I tried lawnmower tires a couple years back, and they didnt help much even though they had "tread" on them that should griped better.

Tire chains will probably help a lot, and you can try some weight in the bag well to help out too like guys do with pickup trucks.

If you go to this web site: http://www.tirechainsupply.com/replacement-parts.html and scroll down to where it shows you a picture of Replacement Cross Chains – V-Bar, this is what I put on my cart when the snow gets deeper than 3" in the steep hills of Southwestern Pa. The "V" part of the chain will dig into anything....including your pretty concrete or truck bed, so be cautious where your going. But, I put 'em on the rear spaced close, and on the front for steering, spaced farther apart.

My cart will go anywhere when the snow is from 3" to 6". After 6" it's just time to get the 4X4 Silverado out.

Before going to the work of cutting down chains
check for clearance both in side and out.

He raise's a good point. I forgot that I had to put 1" spacers on the rear wheels so that the chains would clear the leaf springs. Without the spacers the chains just barely made it.....but the connector would "whack" the leaf spring about every other rotation. Irritating to say the least!!

Simple, go to home depot and pick up cheap chain, enough to go around each tire. I wrap each tire twice with about four inch space between. Let some air out, wrap the tires securing the chain ends however you like. Inflate the tires till tight. Your're not looking for smooth you're looking for grip. No side clearance issues because the chains only wrap the circumference of the tire.

Thanks for the confirmation that chains could be made to work.
I actually got peod yesterday to the point that when this mess clears enough I can find them,I have considered useing 2 old wheels and welding 2 inch angle iron on them like old steel wheel tractors used.
Smooth would be out the window, but dang it I could go.
I am also wondering if a narrow tire on the front would reduce resistance.but then,I could copy the ski's on a Snow bird T conversion and bolt 1 on the tire. :)
