Default 1992 Marathon questions

I have 92 Marathon and was wondering how to disable that annoying reverse
buzzer? Also, I have a burning smell after a short distance. The only thing that feels warm is the F &R switch. Would that be the cause of the smell? Last one. When I bought the buggy, it would only run 3 MPH. The previous owner had just replaced the pot. I lengthened the linkage and now have speeds of 10 MPH. How do I know if I am getting full power to the motor?
Thanks in advance!

1. If you drive the cart where there are people around, you probably don't want to completely disable it for liability reasons.
You can quieten it down by putting tape over the hole where the sound comes out of it.

2. Yes, it could be. Or anything getting hot.

3. Remove the small black and white wires from the controller an measure between the wires with an Ohmmeter.
With the pedal up, you should get close to Zero Ohms.
With the pedal down, you should get at least 5,000 Ohms.

Thanks! I mostly use it for hunting so I would like it quiet. Where is the buzzer located?

Johnnie,
I finally got a chance to look at this and I don't have black and white to the controller. I do have blue and grey coming from the bottom of the pot. Are these the wires I need to read?
Thanked again from a real rookie

Maybe. If the wires were ever replaced, whoever did it probably used whatever color wire was handy.

Trace them out, they should end up at the throttle terminals on the controller.

Thanks, those are the right wires. I adjusted the linkage until I had 4.94. Is that close enough?

It's okay, but a little more wouldn't hurt.

Having over 5K just means you'll reach wide open throttle before the pedal is stopped by the floor.

Don't go too far since the controller thinks anything over 7K is a bad throttle pot and shuts down.

Also, if you adjust it so there is too much resistance when the pedal switch closes (solenoid clicks) the cart jerks at take off.
