wambajamba, I too have a SERIES cart.....and when I redid my cart, I did exactly what Chloe mentioned, I upgraded my whole drive system, motor and all. I have the AMD 7126 RAPTOR motor. the real difference is that I am running on 23" tall tires. You can see in my sig everything in my drive system, and I got it all but the motor from Scotty. Also you can see that my top end is 27 MPH.
