Question EZGO Speed Hacks

Hey everyone,

I've been doing some research, in prep for a neighborhood golf cart race, ways to modify my cart to make it go much faster. I've found a lot of information on the Magnet Trick, but very little info on how to do it, or what positive/negative effects it could have on the cart.

I already have the freedom personality chip, and a speed chip, but my neighbor has done something to his to make it go around 20+ mph.

I would say booster rockets, but I will wait for the experts here to way in.

Yes, voltage will increase motor RPM. If it's a race you want to win. Over volt the stock motor with 72v

The stock PDS controller limits the motor to 4400RPM, which is about 18.9MPH on stock height (18") tires.

You can install 20" tall tires without lifting the cart's frame and body off the axles for tire clearance and that will give you about 21MPH at 4400RPM. (This also reduces the torque by 10%, so the cart accelerates slower and slows more going uphill.)

Replacing the controller with one that doesn't limit the motor to 4400RPM will increase the cart's speed. With a 36V battery pack, a stock PDS motor will spin at nearly 5600RPM, which is about 24MPH on 18" tires.

Adding a seventh battery for a 42V battery pack will spin the motor at about 6500RPM, which is about 28MPH on 18" tires. (Increasing the pack voltage increases torque as well as speed so the cart will also accelerate faster.)

In a nutshell, speed and acceleration cost money, so how fast do you want to go and how fast do you want to get there. Also, once you get there you have to figure out how to stop.

Just replace the controller/cables and up the voltage to 144VDC. It will go real fast ... ONCE...maybe twice.

I know, I know, don't be a smart a....

Seriously:
Replacing the controller with a more capable Alltrax controller and larger cables 2 awg, the contactor to a high amperage one, then increasing the battery voltage.
If you go with lithium batteries, it will considerable lighten the cart for much better acceleration but that can really lighten the wallet at the same time.
