The controller doesn't know what kind of differential is installed, it just doesn't allow the motor to draw as many amps at low RPM when in the Turf mode.

If the cart was in mud or snow, it wouldn't take much amps to spin. I thought maybe it could sense how fast the motor was excelleration was.

The XCT has a 32 bit CPU so measuring the rate of change for the Motor's RPM might be in the realm of possibility, but I don't know one way or the other.

I am fairly sure that motor RPM plays a significant role in field weakening and regen braking.
