SAE 30 is plenty thick enough for an CC axle. There are no hypoid gears that have to slide against each other like in a car diff. The diff oil doesn't get hot either like in an engine. Heavy equipment and farm tractors use a 30 wt hydraulic/transmission oil and they see a LOT more torque and friction and run for thousands of hours at 200 degrees f without issue. Cold temps will further slow the cart as it is harder for the gears to move the oil out of the way. Gear oil won't hurt the axle but speed and run time will be decreased.
