Reason for High Speed Magnet not making Club Car faster?
Hey everyone, first post. I installed a high speed motor magnet and had no increase in speed. I even tried two different high speed magnets to make sure one was not a dud, verified correct installation, and contacted the company). Here is the background on the cart: I have an electric, 48v, 2003 Club Car DS IQ. (AQ serial number). It has a new controller, new solenoid, new batteries, and is otherwise fairly stock. After having it for two months, I installed a 2014 Club Car motor (Black can style, top hat speed sensor). After installing the new motor, everything worked well and it ran 14 mph. The only noticeable thing is that on random days and at random times, the cart will cut out and I will have to quickly take my foot off the pedal and then place it on again and it is gone. (Happens once and is then resolved). The speed sensor is tested as working and I cannot find any other issue. I drive it for miles a couple days a week and have no issues. Has anyone had any experience with a high speed magnet not working or have found a remedy that resulted in one working after it initially did not? Some people report no change in speed. I appreciate any assistance. Oh, and the reason I changed out the motor was because the previous owner had installed a Regen 2 motor from the late 90's-early 00's. Don't know why.

Regen 2 motor should work just fine on your cart. Speed sensor is made different but works the same. If you got your magnet off eBay you likely got a bad one. Check with site sponsor to get the correct one.
The cutting out could be a loose cable on the motor or somewhere else. Be sure to put cart in tow and unhook batteries before working on cart. |

Yeah. I figured the motor is fine. I'm not too worried about the cutting out since I would not think that would affect the success of the high speed magnet. The magnet came from an Amazon seller that is very popular on the first search. They sent me a second to make sure it wasn't a dud but there was no change.

Re: Reason for High Speed Magnet not making Club Car faster?
I had bought an internet sourced magnet and it did not work. 13.5 mph before and after. I bought one from Dave at Revolution and speed went to 20mph on flats and slight hills. Downhill it went a little too fast. I would give his a try. COuple questions just to be sure. If going down hill does the cart slow down? Then you def have a bad magnet. Are your brakes free? Does your cart start immediately when you step on accelerator? If there is a lot of play before the cart starts this may be a worn pedal. You can just put a plastic wire tie down where the petal meets and get fulll use.

Thanks for the reply. Was there any visual difference between the two magnets or did one just work and the other did not?

And my cart does not drag the brakes. They are free downhill from what I can tell. The cart has immediate acceleration as well when I press the accelerator.

Do they have to be installed with a specific side facing out? It's been a long time since I messed with a magnet.

Re: Reason for High Speed Magnet not making Club Car faster?
The manufacturer stated that it needs to be installed with the indentations facing the motor. I tried both ways but no luck on two different high speed magnets. I just can't find a reason for it not to work and it seems too much of a coincidence to receive two that do not work. I ordered one from the source listed in a previous reply and I will try that out as well.
