Battery conversion from lithium to lead acid
I purchased a 2208 EZGO RXV without batteries. I have been told that it had been converted to lithium by the previous owner. How do I convert back to regular lead acid batteries?

Re: Battery conversion from lithium to lead acid
Hmm.. why would you want to convert back to LA batteries? If it had been converted to lithium, the hard work is done for you. You can get lithium batteries from Chevy volts, Nissan Leafs, etc. for under the cost of new LA, all while getting more runtime and saving huge on weight. There are several threads that people have posted on here detailing how they converted to lithium. We're all here to help with any questions

Re: Battery conversion from lithium to lead acid
I vote for lithium too, but not sure I agree about the it being cheaper. I recently converted mine, and I love it. $ wise, we’ll have to see how long the pack lasts.
Op, your cart doesn’t care where the power comes from. Is the battery tray still there? It’s possible the main +, - and negative cables were a different length for the lithium conversion, but other than that, it’s a non issue. |

Re: Battery conversion from lithium to lead acid
I know i'd want to swap them for lead acid too so give the OP a break! Lithium batteries are bad about exploding quite dramatically if abused/inbalanced (see also: Boeing DreamLiner, Hoverboard fires, Craigslist Teslas)

Re: Battery conversion from lithium to lead acid
I'm certainly not trying to give him a hard time. Just offering some opinion/information. As for the dangers of lithium versus LA, there are pros and cons to everything. Neither is completely safe, regardless of how they are treated.
I would recommend doing some research before you make a decision. Don't take anyone's word for anything. Gather information and make your own decision. Either way, we're all here to offer our opinions/information and help. Good luck! |

Re: Battery conversion from lithium to lead acid
Lead acids explode sure, like a 22 rifle going off under your seat. but when Li-Ions go, it's much more dramatic. not to mention the poison chemicals that no doubt get into the air. I've seen puffed batteries, too. and they don't restore my confidence. The only thing that keeps my S8 and other devices that use them from going up in smoke is likely the software and protective hardware to ensure proper charge level and not letting them go completely flat.
Same cannot be said for golf cars. Around here folks run them into the ground and abuse them and wreck them all the time. During winter we get tons of 'dead battery specials' too. Lithium batteries when allowed to go completely flat will be very dangerous to charge if it's even possible. a bad cell in a pack is disastrous as well. Not to mention the expense of it over FLA. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" I'm all about innovation but the only reason most Li-Ions haven't taken out as many folks is because of a ton of protection circuitry and software (or both). It's obvious the tech isn't safe if it needs all of that to keep them from blowing up in our faces (a good example are my tools that run on Lithium rechargeables. the tools themselves won't let you work them to their full potential because it can overheat the battery. the batteries won't charge if warm, or too low, or if it determines the battery is bad). That being said, the OP asked for assistance converting from lithium to lead acids. He didn't ask us for our opinion. |
