Default RXV NEW 36v Solenoid getting hot before cart moves

2013 RXV, Stock Solenoid failed, cart stopped

Replaced with 36v High amp SW181 type solenoid from Scotty B.

Solenoid worked, Cart Ran

However, with cart sitting still, key on, Solenoid gets so hot I can touch for no more than 1 second without burning finger.

Terminals are labeled, I have main positive from Batt to big term marked +

I have red wire from controller to small term marked +

Ideas or suggestions?

What is the model number of your Curtis controller 1206AC 52??.

Is this the original controller that came with the cart?

Can you post a picture of your solenoid with it wired up?

Check the voltage for the activation circuit. The newer rxvs use a 48 volt solenoid. Also is it hot with the cart just sitting? If so check for activation voltage with the cart off and if there you have another problem. If not the solenoid is probably bad or wired wrong.

I am pretty sure it is original, but would not swear. I will verify when I get back to the cart. The solenoid on the cart that failed was a 36 volt solenoid.

Yes, gets hot with key on, cart sitting. Almost certain heat is coming from the activation coil.

I will check, but do not think there is voltage there with cart off as Solenoid releases when switch off.

The solenoid on the cart that failed was a 36 volt solenoid, I am guessing that was stock and matched to the controller. For that reason, my thought is that control voltage is/was correct.

Also, I have a 1314 programmer, so I probably need to check and see if the activation voltage has been changed if that is possible.

If the controller had been changed out it is possible it is set to 48. Vm will tell you that. But it should be cold if not activated.

I don't think controller swapped because the solenoid I took off was 36 volts and it ran quite a bit before it failed.

It is only hot when activated, but, correct me if I am wrong, the RXV activates the Solenoid with key on, unlike other carts which activate on pedal.

So, it is hot with key on, but cart not moving.

Not an rxv expert but working on it. I think, and I know someone will correct me if I am wrong, when the cart is put in gear it cycles through the power on test and unlocks the brake but the solenoid will power up for a few seconds then drop out. If it is hot then I would think the pads on the solenoid are going bad.

Solenoid is on when key in any position other than off. If cart is left on, unused for longer than 20 minutes (if I remember correctly), the solenoid will shut down.
