and NO, I'm not running a reversing contactor set-up....when I built my cart 6 years ago it wasn't a readily available option like it is now, HOWEVER, I am running one of ScottyB's (cartsunlimited.net) HD F&R switches that has never failed me. |

Re: EZGO Marathon coming back from the dead
Put a hitch on the frame today. Wanted to fab it so it could be easily unbolted should the need arise down the road

Re: EZGO Marathon coming back from the dead
At this point going to mig weld & grind anyplace where the floor was spot welded to the frame. It was necessary to drill through floor pan to pull it off.
Have any members here used a sand injector connected to a pressure washer to remove rust and clean it up before priming. If so did it wire well and where dis you get yours? |

Re: EZGO Marathon coming back from the dead
The spindle bearings/sleeves arrived today and after using a drift pin punch to remove the old ones I used a grinder to put a slight bevel on one end to help with alignment. Once the bearing was started a vise was used to seat the bearing on the top as well as the bottom. Took a lot of slop out of the steering.

Re: EZGO Marathon coming back from the dead
I had enough of the original floorboard to use as a template to cut diamond-plate aluminum that I found on Craigslist. Still needs trimmed on the sides but I’m happy so far with the progress.

Re: EZGO Marathon coming back from the dead
I'm curious to see how you put this cart back together. When I called Buggies Unlimited the suggested I only get 20" tires on 10" rims to go with my 4" lift for my 81 Marathon as that was what was recommended for my cart otherwise the wheels would rub on the fenders or frame.
Do you have plans for how you are going to put the rest back together yet? |

Re: EZGO Marathon coming back from the dead
Hey Hi Proof Products the build is looking great. Im about to start doing same to my 85 Marathon. This post is really going to help when i start taking mine apart. I hope you have some more updates soon. im really curious to see how the 23" tires work out as Sawyer_79 pointed out. Ive heard the same thing. I just got some free 12" rims from a friend and was tempted to put on 23" tires as well.

Re: EZGO Marathon coming back from the dead
Cool seeing another Marathon of similar year torn down as far as mine is right now. Mine has much more rust though, what a mess, had to cut out everything under the seat near the batteries even the frame rails
You asked about sand blasting attachment for pressure washers. I picked one up to do a rusty dump trailer rebuild a couple years ago. I didn't like it to be honest, didn't seem to be doing much better than just pressure washing and was a hassle. I unhooked it after a few minutes and just used water for the heavy stuff then back to the old cup wire brush on an angle grinder. Maybe my pressure washer wasn't big enough but it would hardly suck the abrasives out of the bucket unless you had a nice straight tube so the bucket had to be in the perfect place. Then it didn't like to suck up the tube if it got wet at all...well the bucket was right next to a pressure washer with off spray everywhere so that's not good. Ended up being a real hassle and wasn't removing rust much better if at all, than just water. I think it was as Northern Tool kit. Maybe it will go better for you, or already has. Any chance you've take your stock motor off you rear differential yet or are going to? I found a strange rectangle hole in my rear differential that let oil into my stock motor. I'm trying to confirm if that hole is normal and not a lot of us tearing into these old Marathons so if you ever take that motor off would love to pick your brain about what you see. I have a rectangle hole at 9 oclock looking into the rear diff/ input shaft with the motor off. It let all the rear's oil into my motor...hope your's looks better inside than mine did :) |
