2017 Yamaha Drive 2 Gear Oil Change
I am trying to find where you drain and add gear oil on the rear differential, but all I see is a single plug where I believe is where you check the oil level. Is this also where you drain and add gear oil? Seems like it couldn’t be because the plug is towards the bottom of the differential, but I see no where else to drain/add oil. Has anyone done this before? It’s a 2017 Drive 48 Volt. Thanks!

Re: 2017 Yamaha Drive 2 Gear Oil Change
It is different for the EFI model and the standard Gasoline model...
Gas model Remove 10 differential bolts holding the differential cover on to allow oil to drain...clean old gasket off of cover and axle housing, using new gasket(Yamaha Part Number JW9-G631A-00-00) reinstall cover and tighten bolts like you would a tire(tighten bolts at opposite ends in a sequence) and refill to 475 cc(16 oz) with SAE 90 gear oil until it starts to flow from oil level plug hole. Allow excess gear oil to flow out of hole until it stops. Install oil level plug. EFI Model Remove the plastic under cover from under transmission. Place drain pan under transmission and remove drain bolt located on left side of bottom of trans and allow oil to drain. Tighten drain bolt back and remove oil check and fill plug located on top rear of trans and fill with 475CC (16oz) of SAE 80W90 gear oil. Reinstall oil check and fill plug. |

Actually this is neither EFI or standard gas- it’s the 48 volt DC electric (2017 Drive 2)…
