Default Best "bang for your buck" 8v batteries

I have a 36v g16 that I did an SR48500 controller upgrade on with bigger solenoid, f/r switch and cables. All of this was done for more torque and the idea of going 48v once my batteries started showing wear.

I am now looking and pricing batteries. Looking at 6-8v batteries.
What are the best bang for your buck? Pros and cons?

I am currently using some Duracells from Sam's as they were available and well priced.
Are the 8v versions of the Duracells any good?

The short answer is no. The longevity wont be there.

Any battery worth having can be hard to find right now.

Trojan and Interstate are your best bet.

After that its a toss up.

I agree Trojans are the best out there in my opinion, I'll also add Crown Batteries to the short list of good ones out there...

I've had good luck with US batteries. They are heavier than Trojan. To me that means more lead= more run time. not sure if my logic is any good, I convinced myself though

When I had a 36 volt system I had Trojans and got 6 years out of them and they were still going strong. I sold them to someone that couldn't afford new batteries and they're still going strong a year and a half later. I went with Crown 8 volt for my conversion to 48 volts this time around because that was what was available (during covid) and recharge whenever the cart is not moving. One thing I have noticed so far is the Crowns drink less water than the Trojans did and they're not messy at all after charging. The Crowns were a little cheaper than the Trojans but also 5Ah less. There are a lot of recommendations on this site for Crowns. I would have gotten the CR 190's if I could have found them. Cheap is not good quality and good quality is not cheap!

Hey Captain..

in my .02, Crowns are the best!! Trojan was sold off to another company and qc from what I can gather on BGW is not what is used to be.

In my case not wanting the issue of watering and dealing with specific
gravities in maintaining flooded lead acid batteries I went with Crown1
agms.

My Crown 1 agm CRV 260ah are now 2 years old with over 6500 miles
on them (transferred from my previous cart to my ICON I40) and going
very strong...

Though my battery pack is a very heavy 632 lbs 8x6v....my cart zips right up
the hills in my hood 25+mph..even when I have logged a 30 mile day,
my battery pack shows no sign of slowing down due to battery pack soc
discharge.

In my thinking that's not too shabby...for me Crown 1 agms are the ticket
for maintenance free untill the day lithium batteries are truly reliable..
still having issues.

Though long winded ...my hope was to answer with regards to Crown battery quality..

Happy cartin'

Do you use the same charger with the AGM's as the flooded batteries?

Yes I do ...the Dual Pro- Eagle Pro charger can be set for either.
On mine there is fla and a gel setting user can set...

Lee Fisher of Continental Batteries is a rep for both Crown and Dual Pro
chargers...and worked out profile with Crown to meet the particular needs
of the Crown1

The Eagle Pro charger is a very realiable unit...my agms are doing very very well.

If your charger isn't designed with a profile for AGM's do not get them.

Eagle Pro charger far more reliable than Lester Summitt IIs, and made in the USA
field serviceable...

Best wishes
