Motor Issues?
2001 EZGO TXT Series 36v
Almost everything new besides the motor. It was a little jerky when going. Now it won't move without pushing the cart. I can get it to keep running as long as I don't stop. I think I need new brushes, is this the right kit? https://www.amazon.com/LEAPGOMAX-199...63390847&psc=1 |

Re: Motor Issues?
That is a clear sign of worn out brushes in the motor. If you are lucky, the commutator can be resurfaced and all you need to replace is the brushes. Often, when it gets to the point where the motor won't run without pushing it, the commutator is severely damaged by the intermittent contact with worn brushes.

Re: Motor Issues?
I cannot figure out how to remove the armature part so I can get the brushes out? Brushes are 100% frozen.

Re: Motor Issues?
There are usually small bolts on the end that hold the bearing cap in place. The commutator is the part that the brushes run against. Can't see it very well in the pictures because it's down in the end cap. Turn the motor over and remove the hardware on the end.

Re: Motor Issues?
If there is nothing on the end, then the bearing must be pressed into the end cap. Heat the end cap and it may wiggle out. I have only taken apart Hitachi motors from Yamaha carts and they have a speed sensor on the end and two small bolts holding things together. I have replaced brushes - got them from Amazon. Not a hard job once you can get the armature / bearing out of the end cap.

Re: Motor Issues?
If you look between the 2 brushes you can see the commutator, it should be a copper color but may be black from wear. . If it is badly worn then that might prevent the armature from coming out because the brushes are hanging up on it. See if you can release the spring pressure on the brushes.

Re: Motor Issues?
The springs are removed. I may just take it the golf cart shop tomorrow.
Any tools from Autozone that I could rent that may help press this out? Here is a close of pic of the commutator. Also I at least cleaned the stators. |
