I adjusted the valves this morning and it helped a little bit. I could tell it had a little more power but not near enough. Can someone make a list for me for a rebuild? like
pistons x 2
intake valves x 2
something like that so I know exactly what I need.
Thanks

I always get nervous when someone asks for a list of stuff to do a project.... there are a lot of subtle yet critical points to successful engine rebuilding. This is a project best accomplished with some hands on help The guys at J&M or MMT can supply you with motor parts. A service manual is a must read and reread Check our sponsor list for a complete kit. That way you will have all of the gaskets and seals and bearings etc

its imposable to tell somebody what they need to rebuild an engine without having the engine out and apart.
the word (rebuild) means different things to different people! to rebuild is to replace pistons, rods, intake and exhaust valves, valve guides, rods, bearings, etc
is the crankshaft bad? does the block need boring! the valve guides need to be pressed in and the valves seats cut.

a 'kit'? can cost 700.00 plus boring the block 100.00 and then you get to do all the work of putting it together, you should be able to get a new engine for 1200.00 or so

what is the compression now that the valves are right? Also are you sure they are right? I found that taking mine to .006 made a big difference over .004 I for sure would check and recheck before I went crazy wiith a rebuild or new engine.

Compression should be 160 or more...

New engines are no longer available, unless you find a dealer (like me) that bought some before they went to NLA from OEM...

$1,200.00 won't buy them, though. Original list MCI's were $2,200.00. We sell our remaining 295's for $1,850.00 WITH the MCI retro kit ($400.00 value)

Some good news.. I readjusted the valves at .006 and saw a big improvement.
Compression is 170 and 152 now.
It will go up the hill better now but I still would like it to be better. Should I get the basic power kit that has the big spring and see if that helps and possibly sending my driven clutch to Tom at CPP if I still need more power.
What do you guys think?

I didnt see you mention whether you cleaned the carb out thoroughly. You may want to look at that and see if it helps. When I first got my 97 after getting the valves right, I tried cleaning the carb and it was just too worn out. I replaced it and it ran like a top. Just a thought. My next dream is going to a big block!
