Oil in the breather box is a result of blow by at the piston rings. The only fix is an overhaul. Excessive slack at the rings due to normal wear allows compression to pass by slack at the rings. This in turn lets compression force oil out of the crankcase via the by pass hose into the breather box.

We had some luck putting a bit of plastic brillo pad type material in the engine end of the breather hose. Also used plastic AC filter material.... This held most of the oil in check without restricting the breathing too much and gave the engine some more run time before the inevitable refurb.

Hey a little off topic, but maybe not.
I had an issue with my cart this weekend.

We were going a a longer ride and the carts were heated up pretty good (was over 90 degrees that day too), when on a long steep hill, my cart literally shut off and blew a HUGE puff of white smoke from the exhaust.
I thought I blew the engine. However, when I hit the pedal again, it starts right up and blows some serious smoke until it clears up and runs normal again.

My guess is I had some type of blow by that caused the oil to saturate the plugs and stall the engine. Now when the cart actually shut off, I mean shut off...not sputter, not bog...just bam..OFF.
I ran the cart for the rest of the weekend (up and down hills no less) and no problems.
Any ideas?
Was my oil too full?
Cart has plenty of power and its the first time it did anything like this.

This is a 2004 Ezgo btw.
