Default G16 Carb problems..help please.

G16 cart owned for 4 years and ran great. Tune up last year still runs great. This year I go for a ride and after stopping, the cart will not run but just put, put, put with smoke coming out of rear end. Check engine and see gas dripping down from the carb..Figure float is stuck so I take the carb off, clean it out but can't seem to get to the float as it appears the carb bowl is one piece sealed?

I reinstalled the cleaned carb and for one day it ran super. Today it ran for 15 minutes and then when I stopped, same thing. Cart just sat and put, put, etc.. and gas dripped out of the carb. Took the air cleaner off to see the carb bowl and found that if I left it off or not sealed tight it ran! Put the air cleaner back on and it flooded the carb again and would not run but just smoke.

What is the issue? Is it still a float problem in the carb possible, running too rich, jets?? Or is the carb shot and is it just cheaper to get a new one than rebuilding it?

Neon, I would start looking at the air cleaner/filter and cannester not allowing air into the carb. as in choking the carb. Check to make sure the air filter is not soaked with engine oil.

Here is what I found..The air filter is clean and dry. No visible cracks in the air cleaner box....there is a sponge type filter that goes on the bottom before the paper filter goes in that is a bit dirty but nothing that is bad...That could be the issue but I cannot find anything else...I will dismantle the air cleaner assembly and look further....

Go back at the carb, the float was not born in it.
You have some dirt in the needle valve or the float is gas soaked.

Well, it is looking like their is dirt still in the carb as more that the float is gas soaked. I am going to order a rebuild kit with a new float and jets and hope this solves the issues..

Another thing is that I got my Jakes 6" lift in and 22" tires on order. What is the best or recommended upgrade for torque and power to the motor that I can do. I see all kinds of power kits but I have also seen on BBS that the spring is all most need to get more power/torque to the wheels. I do not do a lot of off-roading in the cart but I plan to do some once the mods as done onthe local trails. I get stuck as it is now in the stock cart so time to fix that problem as well.

Also, putting in a K&N air filter would I need to re-jet the carb as well?

There are a few different approaches here.
I gutted the air box, keeping the large filter surface, drilled out the main jet to .042, (you jet by reading the spark plug color, according to altitude and engine mods). I have 23" tires on mine, and used a Yamaha concierge spring on the secondary clutch. I believe it works well. Others have done things differently, so I will let them speak.

Well it looks as if I am rebuilding the carb or sending it out to be reworked since I am doing mods over the winter. I found Plowman's web site and talked to one of the techs there regarding their work on carbs and a power package they offer for the Yamaha's. Anyone have any experience with that company and any work done by them.

Considering all that I want to accomplish with the cart, lift. tires, torque, carb, the power package they offer seems the better option since it all gets done at once rather than parting out everything through different company's
