Ultimate 36 to 48 volt conversion EZ - Go
Can someone tell me the ultimate conversion 36 to 48 volts for a good all around hunting buggy.
I have a 2007 EZ - Go Freedom cart that is stock. I want to lift it, big tires and rims, get good torque and close to 30 mph out of it. I will be using it on mostly flat level ground, fields and paths. Thanks in advance for any help you can give - Tonto |

You will need 2 carts. One we can build to crawl around slow, Up and over anything.
The other one we can make go 30 mph |

Re: Ultimate 36 to 48 volt conversion EZ - Go
You could shoot a little lower. There's a guy in my neighborhood running about 26 Mph...that's almost too fast to drink a beer Have you driven a lifted golf cart at 30 MPH? That's cruising! Most guys going that fast are on pavement with street tires. I'm shooting for 25 MPH on mine, which should be enough for my needs - mainly so I don't have to pull over and let cars pass on my neighborhood streets with a 25 MPH speed limit. Unless you do some serious suspension mods, that kind of speed in an EZGO on anything other than pavement will rattle your teeth out

This cart is pretty close to perfect for what you want.

I almost missed the original post here...sounds like you have a PDS
Here's what I think you will need, but I am no expert: New 4 Ga. cables all the way around Batteries to make 48 volts New Charger New controller at least 500 amp HD solenoid Custom motor re-wind (plumquick) That should get you some pretty good power and at least into the mid 20's. Shop around and check out the sponsor page, there are some good package deals available for controllers. Edit: see scottyb's post above.... I think we posted at the same time - his is much more informational |

Even on good trails at 30 mph you would be flying. Your guns, equipment etc would need to be strapped down tight or they would bounce right off.
If you are going to be using it for hunting then a 15-20 mph top speed is plenty. Most of the time my driving on my hunting property is in the 5-10 mph range. |

Re: Ultimate 36 to 48 volt conversion EZ - Go
I should explain:
I have used electric buggies for several years on my hunting lease. You are right - 5-10 mph on the hunting property. But I have to travel 2-3 miles from one farm to the next. That is where I need the speed. I need speed more than torque as most of our farms have great farm roads. Good looking ride you have there. Thanks - Tonto |

My Alltrax DCX 400 with PQ Bandit and 6 - 8volt trojans will do 30mph with 22" AT tires. It's a little scary....

You might want to look at an EMP 2 speed motor. That is what I have and I have been pleased with it. It has a torque setting and a speed setting (shift on the fly) with about a 3-5 mph difference between to the two depending on set up. |
